My Great Nephew

October 19th, 2016 a handsome little boy came into this world. My niece had her first baby and they named him Landon. He is so precious and looks just like his mamma. Of course I am the one that gets to photograph him!

We did some pictures at the hospital and of course we did his newborn photos but they just came in recently for some family pictures and a few 3 months pictures of just little man. He is such a good baby! He rarely cries and he did so well for his pictures. Most photographers know, photographing a 3 month old baby isn’t the easiest thing. They can’t sit up yet and they don’t usually like being put into weird poses like you would for a newborn session but this little guy didn’t care what we did! He loved laying on our posing bag and let us dress him however we wanted.

I just have to say I am so proud of my niece and her boyfriend. At the ages of 16 and 18 they are just wonderful parents. Sure it wasn’t an ideal time for them to have a baby but you know what, they are doing just fine! Plus now that we all know Landon, what would life be without him? He’s beautiful and I look forward to watching this little man grow up as well as being able to capture all of those moments for them. I love you guys!

With this cold weather still upon us, I am still taking on a few more studio sessions! In fact, our studio is offering Kissing Booth Minis on February 19th. We still have a few slots left for those!

Brown to Bailey

As some of you know, I am getting married this year. We are getting married on October 13th, 2017. It falls on Friday the 13th so I know it seems kind of weird but hey, we’re weird so I think its ok.

I met my fiancé when I was a junior in high school. He was the new kid in school and had moved to Ionia from Sault St. Marie. I thought he was oober cute and we instantly became best friends. We didn’t start actually dating until after I graduated high school, two years later. We have been together ever since and I couldn’t be happier that I get to marry my best friend. He means the world to me along with our three fur babies. By the time we get married we will have known each other for over 8 years and have been dating for over 6. This has been the most amazing 6 years of my life.

Yesterday, my partner over at Brick Street Studio, Marisa, took some engagement photos of us. We just went to one of the county parks in our small town of Ionia, Bertha Brock Park. We did a few shots in the woods and then Logan and I braved the, what we hoped was frozen, pond on our ice skates. I clearly lived to see today and didn’t fall through so needless to say everything turned out just fine. I edited all of the images but I wanted to share some that we took. I cannot wait for our big day to get here, it sure is approaching us quickly!

For those of you that may want to see more, feel free to check them out here.

Brick Street Studio is only booking 3 more weddings for this year!

Mr. & Mrs. Nawrot

Olivia messaged me about a year ago looking for wedding photographers for their October 23rd, 2016 wedding. I had shot one of her friends weddings and thats how they had heard about me. We met in February of 2016 and were able to sit down and chat about the different packages and options that I had available. It was so great to meet her and her fiancé (at the time), Kevin. They were such sweet people and seemed quite excited to have me photograph their wedding! I thought we were a perfect fit!

The day of the wedding, I met Olivia and her bridesmaids at the Hyatt Place Hotel where we captured some getting ready shots and her getting into her dress. My second shooter for the day, Jordan Parham, met the groomsmen at one of their homes. Adding a second shooter to your day allows me to give you all of the best moments. My second shooter will capture some of those candid moments that I may not be able to get while I am busy with the bride and groom. It basically allows me to be in two places at once and gives you quite a few more images to choose from.

It was a gorgeous fall day and our couple wanted to do a first look. Kevin was awaiting his bride at Aman Park in Grand Rapids. Olivia, the bridesmaids, and I walked through the woods to find the rest of the group. Kevin was already set and waiting in a nice little private trail where they would be able to see each other for the first time. First looks are amazing on wedding days. They allow you to get those wedding day jitters off your chest before you have to walk down the aisle. I also love them because it gives us a lot of extra time to capture those wonderful images of you on your big day.

After we went walking through the woods it was time to get down to business and get this couple to their wedding celebration. Their ceremony and reception took place at Johnson Park. It was a beautiful park. Everything was so simple but so stunning at the same time.

They were surrounded by friends and family at their wedding and reception. We had a wonderful soup bar to choose from for dinner with salad and bread (it was delicious!). They decided they wanted to do a sparkler send off as well so we played a little bit with the sparklers before I headed home for the evening.

It was a pleasure getting to know these two and seeing their love for each other. I was so happy to have been able to photograph such important moments for them and I wish them the best of everything to come in the future. They deserve it!

My partner and I over at Brick Street Studio just booked our first destination wedding! We will be heading to Washington D.C. in July and we are definitely looking forward to it. We will only be taking on 3 more weddings in 2017 but we are ready to start booking for 2018. Packages start at $1450 and there are Create Your Own options available.

Mr. & Mrs. Hall

Casey and Chris reached out to me in 2015 looking to book their fall wedding for 2016. We did a little family session for them in the fall of 2015 when I was able to meet them for the first time. I felt we instantly clicked. I loved working with them and they are just such wonderful people. They came back for some holiday pictures as well as some mommy and me pictures in the spring. I was definitely looking forward to their September wedding at the Hydrangea Blu Barn.

The wedding came around on September 10th, 2016 and it was a rainy day. Not quite what your bride and groom are hoping for on their wedding day. It was raining on and off throughout the day but we definitely made it work. I remember my second shooter, Jordan Parham, and I took the dress outside to get some shots of it hanging up by the barn. We were out there for maybe 5 minutes and of course it started pouring, like really pouring! So of course we went back in and tried to find another suitable place to hang Casey’s gorgeous dress from.

The day went on to be quite rainy so the couple ended up having to hold their ceremony inside the barn instead of outside how they initially wanted. That’s alright though, they made it work and the staff at the barn was quick to act to get everything set up and perfect for the bride and groom. Hall-229.jpg

By the end of the ceremony, the rain had let up and people were able to be outside enjoying the entire grounds of the Hydrangea Blu Barn. The sun ended up coming out for a couple hours and we were able to get some wonderful shots of the couple sharing their first dance right outside the barn. It was so beautiful!

We had a blast photographing this couple and being able to work with them throughout this process. I am so glad I was able to get to know them. Thank you Chris and Casey for everything!

I will be taking on 3 more dates for 2017 weddings and am now booking weddings for 2018.

Best of 2016 | SENIORS

I know I may be a little late in the game to be writing a post about the best of 2016 but I don’t care! I had some awesome seniors this past year and I couldn’t be happier with their images! I pride myself in giving my seniors a fun and different experience when it comes to senior portraits. I had over 35 seniors this year and they each were so awesome to work with. My senior sessions took place all over Michigan. From anywhere in between Frankenmuth to Grand Haven, and of course quite a few in my home town of Ionia.

This year I also had 8 senior models. 7 girls and 1 boy. We had so much fun throughout last year doing all sorts of sessions for them and even a few group sessions! I couldn’t be happier with who I chose to represent my business, they all did a wonderful job. We are looking for senior models for the class of 2018, if you’re interested you can check out the program at the following link Senior Model Program.

I hope you enjoy some of these senior portraits from 2016! If you would like to see more senior portraits please check them out here: Senior Portfolio

A Winter Engagement

Anastasia and LaKmal live in New York but when they were in town visiting family for the holidays they asked me to take some engagement pictures for them! Anastasia and I went to school together all throughout elementary, middle, and high school. We even showed our dogs together at the Ionia Free Fair. I was so happy to have been asked to photograph their engagement while they were back home. It was so nice to meet Anastasia’s fiancé!

Here are a few images from their session. Their session took place in Portland MI. We did some images along the board walk and one way bridge that looks over the Grand River as well as a few in the downtown area.

Retro Senior Glam

Hope here is one of my senior models for the class of 2017. She attends CMHS and has been a wonderful model for me throughout the year. Her family chose to go with the largest package I have to offer and in turn a senior glam session came with her package.

Hope decided to go more with the retro side of things. We had Alison Rittersdorf, a hair stylist at Mancius Main Street Salon do her hair and Cydney Robinson do her make up. She had two different outfit options giving us two different looks to her glam mini. It was so much fun working with her on this project and I hope to do more of these in the future!

I am excepting Senior Models for those in the class of 2018. If you’re interested feel free to comment or let me know!

Hurlbut Wedding

Well I know I said I would try to start blogging again once the studio was finished but time of course got away from me this busy season. Now that things are slowing down, I am hoping to stick with this!

With this post we will share some great images from the Hurlbut Wedding. I have known Kali since we were in 6th grade. Her, our friend Jenna, and I were pretty much inseparable in middle school and even into high school. I couldn’t have asked to grow up with better friends. She is amazing inside and out and I am so happy that she has Brad in her life. They are just such great people and I was so honored to photograph their wedding day!

hurlbut-1hurlbut-13hurlbut-16hurlbut-22hurlbut-23

Their entire day took place at Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Ionia MI. It was a rainy day but we definitely didn’t let that stop us. They decided to do a first look, I find first looks to be so romantic and intimate! I definitely recommend doing a first look to future brides, I know I’ll be doing a first look myself when I get married next October.

We had a great time getting some intimate shots of the two of them around the golf course. What a beautiful setting it is out there

When the rain decided to come we moved our photos inside to the dance floor bar area. One great thing about this venue is it is surrounded by windows so we were even able to get some great shots with the natural light in front of the windows.

The rain stopped just in time for their ceremony to begin outside. It was a beautiful ceremony and ended up turning into a lovely night, rain free !

How gorgeous are they?! I can’t believe one of my best friends is married and I couldn’t be happier for the two of them ❤

I am booking weddings for 2017. I only have a few dates available! Packages start at $1450.

Katie || LHS Senior Model

Well it has been a very long time since I have posted on my blog. For that I must say I am so very sorry but don’t worry, you’ll be seeing more from me in the up coming weeks!

Marisa and I are finally moved into our studio and my computer is officially in my new office! It has been one heck of a ride with tons of hard work and a lot of late nights but it is FINISHED!

I wanted to share Katie’s session here from June that we did over at Rosey Mound Nature Center in Grand Haven. It was gorgeous out there even though we had a bit of a chilly, and windy day.

Here is miss Katie!

Studio?!

Well I know I have not been very good at blogging these last couple weeks but I do have a good reason for it! KB Photography is partnering up with Photo’s by Marisa Henry and we are opening up a studio together right in downtown Ionia. Our new address will be 217 West Main Street.

We have been working hard the last couple weeks beginning our remodeling process and we have really made huge progress in our plans. We even knocked down an entire wall of plaster uncovering the underlying original brick. We could not do all of this work by ourselves, we have had some AMAZING friends/clients/family members to help us out along the way. We of course have a ways to go but we are so very excited for the things to come.

This new studio will be a joint studio. Marisa and I are not combining our businesses, we will still be running them individually but we will at least have a nice place for clients to come when they want to have meetings, studio sessions, and much more! In the studio we plan to have a viewing station where clients will be able to come and see their images for the first time on a nice big screen. I plan to host ordering/viewing parties for all of my senior and wedding clients, we will make it a great and fun time!

When it comes to shooting in the studio, we will have a few different backdrop stations for you and your families to choose from. This studio will allow us to expand the type of studio work we will be doing as well as offering our small town a wonderful photography experience. Between the two of us, we offer a wide variety of photography ranging from newborns to weddings. We are so very excited to have a place to call our own right in the heart of Ionia.

To stay up to date on our progress and to be the first to know whats coming next follow our Facebook page at the following link: Photography Studio Facebook

Marisa and I are hoping to have our Grand Opening on August 25th. We will be having a little celebration at the studio on this date so if you want to be invited make sure to follow our Facebook page! The next step in our remodeling process will be to finishing painting the walls and to get that carpet ripped up. Stay tuned for more great images of the finished product!
